How To Eliminate Foam From A Keg

Beer (or any liquid for that matter) is better at retaining gasses at lower temperatures. Therefore: cold beer = less gas released = less foam produced. Occam’s Razor says your keg is probably warm. I’d check if your temperature is correct. Make sure the temperature is being checked from the bottom of the keg, as this is where your beer is coming from.

Clear the first inch or two of beer that sits in the uninsulated part of the faucet and then shove the glass under the faucet at an angle. You waste about half an ounce beer in the form of foam and the actual beer at proper temp comes out sans foam resulting in the normal half inch of head at top-off.

The excess foam is because there’s too much pressure. There are two things I would try. The first is easy – turn off the CO2 and let the pressure in the keg push the beer out. If the sanke coupler has a release valve, you can use that to bleed off the excess CO2.*, §Dip tube in homebrew keg pushing hard on bottom or side…or obstruction in dip tube like hops, grains, dirt etc. If you eliminate the obstruction you will eliminate the foam . §Obstruction in hose, faucet, shank, or some other component.
